MEET JESSE

Jesse Powell is a candidate for the Tennessee General Assembly for District 45 in Sumner County.

​

Born and raised in Memphis, Jesse built a life defined by service, leadership, and commitment to his community. He earned his undergraduate degree from University of Mississippi before commissioning as an officer in the United States Army.


During 14 years on active duty, Jesse deployed four times to Afghanistan and spent more than eight years with the 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell. During his military career, he earned a master’s degree in Public Policy Management from Georgetown University. Jesse later served at the Pentagon, working for the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the Secretary of the Army, including under Mark Esper.


Following his military career, he now works for the nation’s largest mental health nonprofit. He also serves on advisory boards with the Department of Veterans Affairs and the University of Texas at San Antonio focused on suicide prevention and mental health treatment for veterans.
In 2024, Jesse was elected as a Millersville City Commissioner. In this role, he is focused on restoring fiscal responsibility, strengthening ethical governance, and ensuring compliance with state law while addressing longstanding institutional challenges within the city.


Jesse also is active in his home church in Goodlettsville where he serves as a Deacon and manages the church Security Team.

Jesse's priorities include:

  • Eliminating the grocery tax

  • Preparing for balanced growth

  • Maintaining excellence in education

  • Fixing old roads and upgrading the power grid

  • Making firefighting an essential service
